Fourth Sunday in Easter - Christ, Our Example

Goes along with Adult Devotion of the same title.

We can trust in God the Father, just like Jesus did.

Read 1 Peter 2:19-25.

Bible Focus: “For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.” -1 Peter 2:21

In math class, teachers often show us examples to follow. If you add 10 plus 10, you will get 20. You can do that on paper, just the way your teacher showed you. It’s pretty easy to follow the steps and get it right.

1 Peter 2:21 gives us an example to follow: Jesus. Do you think it would be easy or hard to follow Jesus’s example? He never sinned, not even once, his entire life - can you do that? Can you follow his steps and get it right every time?

Thankfully, 1 Peter also gives us information on how Jesus stayed perfect. He trusted God the Father, no matter what was happening in his life. He knew that all sorts of terrible things were going to happen to him here on Earth. Instead of having a bad attitude about it, he came to Earth knowing that God the Father was with him.

We can’t follow Jesus’s example perfectly. We are sinners, and Jesus was not. However, because of Jesus’s perfect life, and because he died and rose again, we can trust in God the Father just like he did. God the Father is always with us. He loves us. He cares about us. That’s why he sent Jesus, after all! We know without a doubt that God the Father is on our side and that he will bring us to Heaven someday. If that’s true, then nothing can really hurt us.

Your challenge this week:

The next time something bad happens to you, say a prayer to God the Father.

Please pray:

Heavenly Father, you sent Jesus to save me! I confess that I don’t always trust you like Jesus did. Thank you for always being on my side. I ask that you would help me trust you no matter what. In your Son’s name I pray, Amen.
